Dry Battery
A dry cell is the most common type of portable chemical power source in our daily lives, classified as a primary (non-rechargeable) battery. It is called "dry" because its electrolyte is not a free-flowing liquid, but rather a paste or gel, which makes it compact, easy to carry, and leak-resistant. The battery generates electricity through an internal oxidation-reduction reaction, converting chemical energy directly into electrical energy. Once the internal chemicals are consumed, the reaction cannot be reversed, meaning the battery cannot be recharged.
Today, the market is mainly dominated by two types of zinc-manganese dry cells:
  1. Carbon-zinc batteries: These are highly affordable and ideal for low-power devices like TV remotes and wall clocks.
  2. Alkaline batteries: Featuring a higher capacity and better voltage stability, they are perfect for high-drain devices such as digital cameras, motorized toys, and smart locks.
Widely used in various small electronic devices, modern alkaline dry cells are now manufactured without mercury or cadmium, making them much more environmentally friendly.
